Eighteen teens from our two congregations, Evergreen and Chehalem Valley spent this past Spring Break in two poor pueblos of Guadalajara: Santa Ana Tepetitlan and La Floresta. The primary purpose of this trip was to strengthen our relationships with our Mexican congregations in these communities and to help them love the many children in the streets. Some of these children suffer from skin diseases, while others have significant disabilities. The gospel gushed from our teens speech and actions. Mission Accomplished! Team leader, Tim Dugan, and his crew remodled one our buildings to house a dorm for mission teams and a youth center. Adult sponsors, Joe and Cindy Pope encouraged teens and our Mexican sisters and brothers daily. Our two sister congregations staff and operate Eirene Ministries, a perfect organization to provide service opportunities for our teens. Our philosophy of youth ministry features outreach and service. Teens agree: more satisfaction comes from serving on missions and excursions like this one than a trip to Disneyland or a party. -Nothing wrong with having fun through entertainment. There is simply more to life that can be enjoyed in serving Christ. On one full day of tourism, the youth group explored and enjoyed the center of Guadalajara. Here are a few memorable sites:
