Evergreen Mission Statement

Worship: No higher purpose or expression in the life of Evergreen can be embraced than worship of the one, true God, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. We declare that all of our life is worship and that our corporate meetings are means to glorify God.Goals: 1) EPC elders will call all members and all interested neighbors to worship together on Sunday mornings; 2) EPC will preach the whole counsel of God in its worship meetings, making the gospel clear and practical for Christians and non-Christians alike; 3) EPC will encourage all to respond to God by singing his praises and his truth to one another; by confessing our sin and weakness as well as our faith in him; by giving our tithes and offerings to him; 4) EPC will seek to follow God’s word concerning the content and form of worship in our corporate meetings and in all areas of life; 5) EPC will welcome all kinds of people to its worship meetings, extending to everyone regardless of creed, race, gender, or age, the love of Christ Jesus; 6) EPC will call all to be baptized and invite all who have exclusive faith in Christ to celebrate the Supper of the Lord, giving special care to assure that members participate free from sin and united to one another in Christ Jesus, our Lord; 7) EPC will seek to gather to worship as many people as possible to pray and to plan for the multiplication of congregations throughout Oregon.Growth: Christ Jesus has commanded his Church to make disciples, by going into our community and world to gather people, by baptizing them in God’s name, and by teaching them all of Christ’s commands. We have joined the kingdom of God expanding throughout the world and seek to encourage all to embrace orthodox doctrine, and to lead holy lives, rich in good works.Goals: 1) EPC will instruct all prospecive members concerning the gospel, our confession of faith, our ministries, and our mission, through the regularly offered Discovery Group; 2) EPC shall ordain and train elders to equip members to serve, by teaching them biblical content, interpretation, and application, all with the emphasis on drawing close to God, dying to self and living the new life in the Spirit, holy in heart and behavior; 3) EPC will offer a comprehensive biblical and theological education through an established Sunday School for all ages; EPC will enlist and equip members to teach in this school; 4) EPC will establish and develop a private school for our children and the children of our community, provding a Christ-centered, Classical education;5) EPC will encourage and equip every individual and family to regularly read, study the Bible, pursue the spiritual disciplines, including prayer, fasting, and giving to the needy, and to daily believe the gospel and to repent of sins; 6) EPC will organize small groups and special events that will increase understanding and practice of biblical faith for our entire community; 7) EPC will teach its members to expand the kingdom of God through all areas of life in light of the gospel.Fellowship: The Holy Spirit maintains and deepens our relationship to God and to one another. We operate as one body of Christ, united in spirit, intent on one purpose. We seek to love and to care for one another in the Church.Goals: 1) EPC will regularly pray for one another; 2) EPC will call all members to obey the “one-anothering” commands found in the Bible, within our congregation, through out our presbytery, and in all our Christian relationships; 3) EPC will ordain Deacons who will organize and lead ministries of mercy to meet the needs of our membes, mobilizing members to care for one another and to complete all tasks vital to the operation of the Church; 4) EPC will ordain Elders who model in their relationships a godly faimly, true fellowship, spending time in prayer for the Church, listening to members, encouraging them, and providing proper expedient care; 5) EPC will host events that promote friendship and fellowship among people, encouraging members to practice hospitality; 6) EPC will call members to be accountable to each other and to submi to the loving discipline of the elders; 7) EPC will emphasize the ministry of reconciliation, praying for the unity of the Church, receiving Christ’s peace and being quick to forgive one another.Outreach: Jesus has commanded his Church to go into all the world and preach the gospel. We believe that the kingdom of God is prevailing against the kingdom of darkness, and that the Church is being established throughout the world according to Christ’s promise. While God is our fortress, the Church is our mission headquarters.Goals: 1) EPC will regularly establish new congregations of the Presbyterian Church in America (PCA), in Oregon toward the forming and growth of the Oregon Presbytery; All these congregations will seek to multiply, preach the gospel, and relieve the poor and the oppressed in each community; EPC will work within the Metro-Northwest Church Planting Network to recruit and to place church planters in Oregon; 2) EPC will join the Mission to the World of the PCA and other evangelical mission organizations to establish congregations throughout the world who will multiply, preach the gospel, and relieve the poor and the oppressed; EPC will work with other churches and groups of Christians to reach the lost for Christ; 3) EPC will ordain and install Deacons who will train and organize members to care for our community; 4) EPC will regularly pray for the expansion of God’s kingdom; 5) EPC will dedicate at least 10% of its annual budget to outreaching ministries and missions; 6) EPC will ordain and install Elders to preach the gospel regularly calling everyone to believe the gospel and to repent of their sins; 7) EPC will challenge and equip every member to preach the gospel to their family, friends, and acquaintances, privately, in small groups and whenever the opportunity arises.
