At Chehalem Valley we teach our children the Westminster Shorter Catechism, a collection of questions and answers designed to teach them basic biblical truths. The first question is: What is the chief end of Man? The Answer = The chief end of Man is to glorify God and to enjoy him forever. Chehalem Valley Presbyterian Church exists to glorify God. We do so by repeating what we know about God, especially the gospel of Jesus Christ. Our worship gathering are designed to glorify God by maintaining a reverent focus upon him and by declaring his holiness and amazing grace. We encourage all of our members to pursue their vocations, fields of study, and all pursuits with excellence, believing that in every endeavor we can glorify God by showcasing his beauty, truth, and goodness.
Chehalem Valley Presbyterian Church exists to enjoy God forever. Our theology emphasizes the covenant loving kindness of God. We believe that one of the Bible’s central themes is God entering into a relationship with us. We not only enjoy everything God has created, but we enjoy him as a Person who has made us, sustained us and has pursued us. As a church community, we enjoy God through the fellowship of members. We encourage hospitality, friendship, ministry teams, and helping to relieve one another’s needs. As we love one another, the world recognizes that we are followers of Jesus. Through these relationships we enjoy God. Our enjoyment in this present world is merely a hint of what God is planning for us in the new heavens and new earth. At Chehalem Valley Presbyterian Church we enjoy God today with the anticipation of a fuller joy, free from the common curse, original sin, and human treachery. We are not escapists, but we do have a certain hope that our enjoyment will increase and flower in the age to come. Christ Jesus has conquered sin and death and so death is our passage into glory.
The Christian anticipates an eternity to glorify God and enjoy him forever.
