The Great Commission of Jesus in Matthew 28 commands His church not only to evangelize, but to also “make disciples.” This work of making disciples means teaching people of all ages what it looks like to grow deep in the Lord Jesus Christ. The Sunday School program is one way that Evergreen Presbyterian Church seeks to obey this command.
Sunday School takes place during the regular school year and takes a break during summers. It meets for 45 minutes on Sunday mornings between worship services, from 10:30-11:10am. There is Sunday School for adults and children alike.
For Children:
The children’s Sunday School classes meet on church property in the facilities of St. Stephen’s Academy. We currently have three children’s classes broken down by grade level:
- Pre-K to 2nd Grade Class
- 3-5th Grade Class
- 6-12th Grade Class
Children’s Curriculum:
Our children’s curriculum is from One Story Ministries. One Story Ministries is a whole Bible curriculum aimed at teaching children all of Scripture. Some Sunday School curricula only highlight the “big” events of redemptive history (Jericho, David/Goliath, Samson, etc.). We are convinced that children should be taught that all of Scripture is God-breathed, important, and worthy of study. For that reason, we are grateful for the One Story curriculum and have found it to be a great blessing.
For Adults:
Our Adult Sunday School meets in Evergreen’s sanctuary as one class. Currently, Ruling Elder Micah Meeuwsen is going through the Belgic Confession to help deepen our understanding of God’s Word.
